I'm going from being a Couch Potato to a 5K Runner!
Dear Friends and Family,
My friend Shirley is running a marathon. Actually, 7 marathons. On 7 continents. In 7 consecutive days.
It's an amazing challenge, and Shirley has an important reason for taking it on: the amazing kids at OIC.
OIC – Orthopaedic Institute for Children – is a “kids-first” place where children from Los Angeles and all over the world go to get top-quality medical care so they can bounce back from orthopaedic injuries and problems that threaten to sideline them. OIC’s doctors and staff have the expertise – and just as important, the passion – to help.
Shirley’s commitment to run for these kids got me thinking.
It’s easy to take our bodies for granted when they work right. And when they don’t, it’s tough to do anything except hurt. And that’s got to be even tougher when you’re a kid!
So, I’m “running” with Shirley! I want to show how much I appreciate her dedication to OIC’s kids by getting into shape with her. (Don’t laugh! This is in honor of Shirley, and for OIC’s kids!)
Although I don’t ever plan to run the mind-boggling distances Shirley runs – especially not in Antarctica (brrr!, you know I’m more a beach type), I can honor the spirit of her run – and help her achieve her goals for OIC – by my transformation from a “Couch Potato” to a 5K Runner! I have joined the 777 Challenge Training Program: 7 Weeks + 7 Days to 5K!
Starting December 10, 2018, in 7 weeks + 7 days, I'll be ready to run a 5K race. (I know, hard to believe!) And the coolest thing of all … I will finish the training the week that Shirley runs her 7 Marathons on 7 Continents in 7 Days! So I will literally be “running with Shirley".
I am fundraising to help Shirley reach our goal of raising $77,700 for children. Please join me. Every dollar makes a difference. Will you sponsor me with a gift of $77 representing my 7+7 training? Or, a gift of $177 will inspire me to REALLY move!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Love, Mary Beth
